The Company believes that Mae Lama offers the most immediate opportunity for fast-tracking into production. The Company started with the rehabilitation of the former production openings to take channel and bulk samples from the main production vein and planned a resumption of tungsten production, with the objective of developing up to one million tonnes of high-grade (reportedly averaging 2% WO3) ore. Assuming grade and tonnage were verified, Amanta anticipated a production level of up to 2,500 t/y of high-grade tungsten concentrate, providing the Company with a significant revenue stream for up to ten years. Producing a concentrate rather than a finished product would ensure that both capital and ongoing production costs would be minimized. However, since 2009, depressed market conditions and an ongoing challenging financing environment have forced the Company to put the project on hold.
With Amanta’s focus on becoming a significant copper/silver and molybdenum exploration company in Laos, the Company’s Thai projects are no longer considered core projects and Amanta is considering ways to realise the value of its Thai assets, either through Joint Ventures or sales.
