Recognizing Thailand’s potential for tungsten production, Amanta acquired a 100% working interest in two former tungsten mines near Chiang Mai in northern Thailand. The Company’s tungsten prospects at Mae Lama and Mae Chedi were among the larger producers of the 1980s, each outputting several hundred tonnes of concentrate per year. Tungsten is a unique metal, boasting exceptional high density and the highest melting point of all metals. It is most frequently used as tungsten carbide in cemented carbides because of its outstanding hardness. Tungsten is also widely used in alloys and steels.

At the Langu gold prospect in southern Thailand, strong correlation between surface geochemical sampling, trenching and geophysics confirms the presence of a highly anomalous gold trend over 6 km in length. The prospect holds excellent potential for Chinese-Carlin style gold mineralization. An initial drill programme limited to the north end of the anomaly yielded encouraging results.

With Amanta’s focus on becoming a significant copper/silver and molybdenum exploration company in Laos, the Company’s Thai projects are no longer considered core projects and Amanta is considering ways to realise the value of its Thai assets, either through Joint Ventures or sales.
